An extreme nine-day winter expedition walking across the frozen Zanskar River — the legendary Chadar Trek — through narrow gorges with sheer cliffs rising hundreds of metres on either side, camping in caves used by Zanskari traders for centuries. Sub-zero temperatures, cracking ice underfoot, and scenery no monsoon trek can match.

Drive to Chilling & Trek Start
Drive to Chilling village, first steps onto the frozen Zanskar River, overnight camp in a riverside cave.

Day 4
Cave Camp to Tibb Cave
Trek along the ice sheet through the gorge, watching the river's frozen waterfalls, overnight in Tibb cave camp.

Day 5
Tibb to Nerak
Continue upriver to Nerak village, visit the frozen waterfall — the trek's most iconic sight — overnight camp.

Day 6
Nerak Rest Day
Acclimatised rest day at Nerak, short exploration around the frozen falls and village.
7
Day 7
Nerak back to Tibb
Begin the return trek along the frozen river to Tibb cave camp.
8
Day 8
Tibb to Chilling & Drive to Leh
Final trekking day back to Chilling, drive back to Leh, hot shower and celebratory dinner.

Day 9
Departure
Rest and recovery morning, transfer to Leh airport.
