Special-purpose travel where planning, safety, and partner coordination matter most.
Film Location Management at Taro Voyages is an end-to-end scouting and coordination service for film productions, covering permits and clearances, production logistics, and cast and crew hospitality.
Every great film, every iconic commercial, every landmark music video has one thing in common: the location was chosen with intention. The right light at the right hour. The architecture that speaks without dialogue. The landscape that becomes a character.
We have scouted locations for Bollywood blockbusters, international studio productions, luxury brand commercials, and documentary series across six continents. We know which palace in Rajasthan has the best morning light, which street in Old Delhi feels like another century, which forest in Kerala gives you silence.
Beyond scouting, we manage the complete production ecosystem: permits from state governments and archaeological authorities, local crew coordination, unit base camps, catering and hospitality for cast and crew, and real-time logistics during the shoot.
India offers the world's most diverse shooting palette — and it remains astonishingly underused by international productions. We are changing that, one exceptional frame at a time.
Our location managers are not just logistics people. They are creatively fluent. They read a mood board and understand what the director of photography is chasing. They can tell you which haveli has the courtyard that catches the January morning sun at a 45-degree angle between 7:15 and 8:40am. They can show you the street where the 18th-century plaster is intact for two entire blocks. This granular knowledge is what makes productions succeed.
Over 300 productions have trusted us — from Netflix originals and Yash Raj Films to global advertising agencies and independent documentary filmmakers. Our relationships with the Archaeological Survey of India, individual state film development corporations, forest departments, coast guards, and airport authorities have been built over 18 years of delivering without surprises.
If India is in your story — or if you are open to discovering that it should be — let us show you what it looks like through our lens.
The location is not where you put the camera. It is why the camera goes there at all.
As of the 2011 census, Jaipur had a population of 3.1 million, making it the tenth most populous city in India, and it sits 268 kilometres from the national capital, New Delhi. It is widely known as the Pink City because of the dominant colour of the buildings in its old walled city.
Jodhpur is the second-largest city in Rajasthan after the state capital, Jaipur, with a population of about 1.6 million as of 2025. It is the historic capital of the Kingdom of Marwar, founded in 1459 by the Rathore clan chief Rao Jodha, and served as that kingdom's seat until Mewar and the other princely states of the former Rajputana Agency merged into the newly formed state of Rajasthan on 30 March 1949, following India's independence in 1947.
Varanasi, also known as Kashi, sits on the left bank of the Ganges in the middle-Ganges valley of southeastern Uttar Pradesh, holding a central place in Hindu traditions of pilgrimage, death and mourning, alongside a syncretic tradition of Islamic artisanship that underpins its religious tourism. The city lies 692 kilometres southeast of New Delhi and 320 kilometres southeast of Lucknow, and sits 121 kilometres downstream of Prayagraj, where the Ganges meets the Yamuna at another major Hindu pilgrimage site.
What Film Location Management actually plans and arranges.
Comprehensive recce with photography, sun angle analysis, access assessment, and detailed location reports for your creative team. We deliver GPS-tagged dossiers with time-of-day lighting guides.
Government, archaeological, forest, police, and private property permissions — handled with zero delays through our established channels. ASI, state film boards, and private owners all managed.
Unit base camps, equipment transport, generator arrangements, security, crowd management, and on-location production offices — configured to your exact crew size and shoot schedule.
Star hotels for principal cast, comfortable stays for crew, catering kitchens meeting Bollywood and international dietary standards, and wellness facilities on larger productions.
Ground fixers in 50+ countries who speak the language, know the laws, and have the relationships that get productions into impossible places — from Patagonian fjords to Moroccan medinas.
DGCA-cleared helicopter aerials, underwater location support with dive logistics, high-altitude shoots above 5,000m, and access to restricted heritage sites for authorized productions.
Database of 5,000+ registered extras across India. We handle costume, make-up coordination, catering, and crowd direction for sequences requiring 50–500 background artists.
Our art department liaisons know which districts in Varanasi have unmodified 19th-century facades, which temples allow temporary set elements, and where to source period props locally.
Remote shoot communication, satellite internet, live production monitoring, and generator power solutions for locations far from the grid — Spiti Valley to Rann of Kutch.
Andaman coral reefs, Kerala river interiors, Pondicherry dive sites — we coordinate diving medics, underwater housing, safety divers, and coast guard clearances.
Filming inside Project Tiger reserves, bird sanctuaries, and coastal zones requires Forest Department permissions and designated wildlife spotters. We manage all of this for wildlife documentary productions.
Location restoration, prop return, permit closure, local crew payments, and courtesy reporting to the relevant authorities. We leave every location better than we found it.
Every service starts with a human brief and turns into a confirmed scope only after the route, inclusions, and budget band make sense.
Share traveller profile, dates, budget comfort, non-negotiables, and any safety or logistics constraints.
Taro shortlists the right destinations, stays, experiences, routing, and supplier options for this service.
The team refines inclusions, exclusions, quote basis, documents, payment milestones, and cancellation terms.
Travel support stays attached through the journey, with coordination for changes, local assistance, and follow-ups.
ASI (Archaeological Survey of India) permits typically take 4–6 weeks. State heritage locations vary — Rajasthan's palaces are usually faster (2–3 weeks through our contacts), while UNESCO World Heritage interiors can take 8–10 weeks. We begin permit applications the moment a location is shortlisted and keep you informed at every stage.
Yes — we handle DGCA drone permissions, local police NOCs, and airspace clearances. India's drone rules are evolving; our team is fully current on the 2023–24 drone regulations, including the Green, Yellow, and Red zone classifications. We ensure your aerials are always legal and logged.
Yes — we are the India fixer for several international studios and streaming platforms including Netflix, BBC, and major advertising agencies. We understand co-production dynamics, tax incentive structures, and have working relationships with the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting for official sanction letters.
Absolutely. We have a database of 5,000+ registered extras across India's major shooting locations — Jaipur, Mumbai, Chennai, Delhi, Kolkata, and Hyderabad. Costume, make-up, and art direction support can also be arranged locally through vetted partners.
Our location managers monitor hyperlocal weather 72 hours ahead using professional meteorological services. We maintain approved B-locations and can pivot plans the same morning. Force majeure protocols — including deferred day costs — are built into every production contract.
Yes — we have active fixer partnerships in 50+ countries including Morocco, Jordan, Hungary, Iceland, Japan, and South Africa. For international scouts, we embed one of our Indian coordinators with the local fixer team to ensure seamless communication with your production house in India.
We can facilitate production insurance through specialist brokers who understand Indian and international production requirements. We strongly recommend cast and crew insurance, equipment insurance, third-party location liability, and weather cancellation cover for every shoot.
We manage crowd direction, security cordoning, police liaison, meal logistics, and catering for extras. We have handled sets of 500+ extras in public heritage locations with zero incidents across multiple productions. Our crowd coordinator team is drawn from film institute-trained professionals.
Select active sites and royal residences grant filming permissions at certain hours and under specific conditions. We have established relationships with temple trusts (including several major South Indian temples), palace administrations in Rajasthan, and Waqf Board-managed heritage sites. We present your production sensitively and professionally to each institution.
Our minimum production support engagement is 3 shoot days. For location scouting only, we take single-day commissions in most regions. Scout-only engagements can begin within 5 business days of a signed brief.
Yes — we coordinate ATA Carnet documentation, customs clearance at major Indian airports, bonded storage for equipment arriving ahead of the shoot, and re-export documentation at the end of the production. We have existing relationships with customs brokers at Mumbai, Delhi, Chennai, and Kolkata airports.
We operate or commission catering kitchens capable of preparing both Indian and international cuisine to Bollywood- and studio-quality standards. We can maintain strict separation of vegetarian and non-vegetarian food preparation, accommodate halal and jain requirements, and provide three-meal-a-day service for crews of 15 to 500+.
The most dramatically underutilised regions are Northeast India (Meghalaya's root bridges and living cloud forests), the Rann of Kutch's white salt desert, the Chettinad palace townscape in Tamil Nadu, and the ancient cave temples of Ellora and Ajanta. These locations offer extraordinary visual character with fewer competing productions and faster permits.
All our team members sign NDAs before joining any project. Location photography is stored on encrypted cloud servers with access controlled per production. We do not share location photographs, scripts, or production schedules with any third party. Our data security protocols meet international studio requirements.
Send dates, travellers, preferred style, and the level of support you need. The team will return with a practical route and quote basis before any booking step.
