Boracay

Why Boracay works

Boracay's White Beach, a nearly four-kilometre crescent of fine white sand divided into three main stations, has long been considered among the finest beaches in Asia, its shallow, gently sloping turquoise water safe for swimming across nearly its entire length. A significant 2018 government-ordered closure, aimed at addressing years of unregulated development and sewage infrastructure strain, forced a six-month island-wide rehabilitation that resulted in stricter environmental regulations, capped visitor numbers, and improved waste management — changes that most repeat visitors now consider to have genuinely improved the island's water quality and overall experience. Station 2, the busiest stretch, remains the commercial heart of the island with D'Mall's restaurants and shops feeding directly onto the beach, while Station 1's wider sand and calmer atmosphere suits those seeking a slightly quieter stay without leaving White Beach entirely. Puka Shell Beach, on the island's northern tip, offers a rougher, less crowded alternative named for the shells once commonly found washed ashore here. Sunset sailing on traditional paraw outrigger boats remains one of the island's signature experiences, timed to catch the evening light over the Sibuyan Sea. Beyond the beach, Boracay's small size makes it easy to explore by tricycle or e-trike, with Mount Luho's viewpoint offering an elevated overview of the island's shape and surrounding reef.
