Rishikesh Yoga Retreats Compared: From ₹500/Night Ashrams to ₹25,000/Night Luxury

The yoga capital of the world has options for every budget. We stayed at 8 retreats to compare teachers, accommodation, food, and vibes.

Rishikesh — the birthplace of yoga tourism, made famous when the Beatles visited Maharishi Mahesh Yogi's ashram in 1968 — now hosts over 300 yoga schools and retreats. The quality ranges from life-changing to questionable. We spent two months testing eight retreats across every budget level.

Budget Tier: ₹500-2,000/Night

Parmarth Niketan Ashram

The most famous ashram in Rishikesh, right on the Ganga with the iconic evening Ganga Aarti. Basic rooms, sattvic meals, and structured daily yoga/meditation. Not luxurious, but deeply authentic. The experience of chanting with 1,000 people at sunset is unforgettable. ₹800/night all-inclusive.

Phool Chatti Ashram

More intimate than Parmarth, with a focus on Sivananda-style yoga. Beautiful riverside garden, simple but clean rooms, and genuinely experienced teachers. The vegetarian meals are excellent. ₹1,200/night all-inclusive.

Mid-Tier: ₹3,000-8,000/Night

Veda5 Luxury Ayurveda & Yoga Retreat

The best of both worlds: serious yoga and Ayurveda programming in boutique hotel-quality accommodation. River-facing rooms, organic garden, rooftop yoga shala. ₹6,500/night with meals and daily yoga.

Premium Tier: ₹10,000-25,000/Night

Ananda in the Himalayas

India's most celebrated luxury wellness resort, set in the former Maharaja of Tehri-Garhwal's palace estate. World-class spa, personalized yoga instruction, Vedanta philosophy sessions, and Michelin-worthy healthy cuisine. The Ganges views from the pool are magnificent. ₹22,000/night with full wellness program.

Our Rankings

  • Best overall experience: Ananda in the Himalayas (if budget allows)
  • Best value: Phool Chatti Ashram (authentic, intimate, affordable)
  • Best teaching quality: Veda5 (experienced Iyengar and Ashtanga instructors)
  • Best for spiritual depth: Parmarth Niketan (the Ganga Aarti experience is unmatched)
  • Best for beginners: Veda5 (patient instruction, comfortable environment)
I stayed at Phool Chatti for 10 days at ₹1,200/night. The teaching quality rivaled a retreat I'd done in Bali for $200/night. Rishikesh remains the world's best value for yoga.
