10 Google Flights Features Most Travelers Don't Know About

Google Flights is the most powerful flight search tool available, yet most people use barely 10% of its features. Once you master its hidden capabilities, you'll find flights faster, cheaper, and with more flexibility than any other booking platform.

1. The Explore Map

Don't have a fixed destination? Click 'Explore' and see a world map with prices from your home airport to everywhere. Filter by budget, travel dates, and trip length. This is how you find ₹12,000 round-trips to places you'd never have thought to search.

2. Date Grid & Price Graph

The flexible dates view shows a grid of prices across different departure and return dates. A visual price graph tracks fare trends over months. Together, they reveal that shifting your trip by just two days could save ₹8,000.

3. Price Tracking Alerts

Toggle the 'Track prices' switch for any route and Google will email you when fares drop significantly. It even predicts whether prices are likely to increase, helping you decide whether to book now or wait.

4-7: Power User Features

1. Filter by number of stops, airline alliance, and even specific aircraft type
2. Use 'Nearby airports' toggle to automatically check alternate departure/arrival airports
3. Multi-city routing for complex itineraries (e.g., Delhi → London → Paris → Delhi)
4. Baggage comparison view shows total cost including checked bags — not just base fare

8-10: Expert Tricks

• Change your departure country to find cheaper fares (some routes are priced lower when booked from different markets)
• Combine Google Flights discovery with direct airline booking — find the route on Google, then book on the airline's site for better cancellation policies
• Use the 'Self-transfer' option for creative routing that saves 40%+ on complex itineraries
